HV Commissioning Engineer – Distribution Networks (11kV–132kV)
East of England (site-based with travel)
We’re representing a leading UK energy infrastructure contractor delivering distribution network upgrades, new connections and substation builds across the East of England. Operating as a major Independent Connection Provider (ICP), the business plays a key role in strengthening network capacity and supporting the transition to a more flexible, low-carbon grid.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer to join their substation delivery team, working across 11kV, 33kV and 132kV networks.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the testing and commissioning of high voltage plant and equipment, integrating new infrastructure safely onto live distribution networks. Working closely with project teams, designers and clients, you’ll ensure all commissioning activities are delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance.
This is a hands-on, site-based role with a strong technical focus, offering the opportunity to work on a wide range of distribution projects across the region.
Key responsibilities include:
- Testing and commissioning HV plant and apparatus onto live networks
- Producing and implementing commissioning plans and procedures
- Ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards, legislation and safety requirements
- Supporting site teams with technical input and resolving on-site design issues
- Attending client and project meetings, representing the commissioning function
- Reviewing and amending drawings and technical documentation
- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development
- Promoting innovation and continuous improvement across commissioning activities
About You
- Proven experience in HV testing and commissioning within distribution networks (11kV–132kV)
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering standards, procedures and legislation
- Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental requirements within live network environments
- Confident communicator, able to engage with clients, designers and site teams
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- Qualified to HNC / Degree level in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
